MDF Characteristics of Utility Functions of MDF
They can be summarized as follows: It is easy to be handled in the machines, its stability is perfect, it has standard sizes and its sizes never change, its both surfaces are rubbed and jigged, there is no defects such as snags, fractures, shreds on any part of it, its every part is of the same intensity, it is ready to be used and need no preparations, it is appropriate for nearly any kind of lac, paint and varnish etc., it can be surfaced with materials such as PVC paper, melamine and veneer, it can be attached by its two sides and surfaces (In order to do this, please make sure that the woodscrews to be used are parallel groove and the screw sockets has already been drilled).



MDF-Areas of Usage:
MDF is used worldwide generally as %70 in furniture production and %30 in other areas. Thin MDF is used in drawer mats, door surfaces, furniture and cabin backboards, exhibition panels. It is also used in production of decorative panels via boring some holes on it and it is used in creation of sloping surfaces as it is easy to be bent.
Thick plates are used mostly as rough planking and shelves, stairs workbench, sitting benches as well as some architectural purposes such as pillars and plasters in buildings and arcades. Being moisture-resistant, it is also used in baht-room and kitchen furniture, laying, windows stairs and architectural moulds.
Because of the fact that it is surfaced as to be outdoor places-resistant, it is also used in advertisement panels, shop windows, garden furniture, boat cabins and door panel being used at outdoor places. Thanks to its models that delays deflagration, it is serviceable also in wall and billboard layover, bureau systems and equipment’s in ships built next to cabins and bulkheads. Panels of high density are used in industrial shelf, workbenches, rough planking, furniture underlay and kitchen and bathroom units.



What are important qualities of MDF in Furniture Manufacturing?
In furniture business, MDF is not only a much more superior base material than the chipboard, but, owing to some of its aspects, it is also regarded as a more advantageous type of timber than solid wood.

Since it has first been used in Turkey, MDF is more easily handled and used in manufacturing than solid wood; it give similar positive results in machine proceedings such as cordon, channel, lamp and dovetail; additionally, as there is no defects such as snags, fractures, shreds on its surface and above all, as it is cheap, MDF is preferred to solid wood.



Is there any other usage area of MDF except Furniture Business?
Usage area of MDF, which is superior even to solid wood in some respects, is, of course, not limited to furniture business. As a matter of fact, MDF displaces solid wood in many areas when it comes to use of wood in Turkey and all around the world. In construction sector, where this situation has mostly been experienced recently, the followings are some of the areas where MDF is used perfectly:

Floor coverings, ceilings (MDF is surfaced or directly used), interior parts of buildings, door frames, doors, railings, handrails, built-in cupboards, cupboard doors, cupboards and backboards, bureau tables, coffee tables, billiards table, skirting boards, kitchen and bath-room cupboards…
